In memory of
Anna Marie Hopkins
Anna Marie Hopkins, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016, in Golden LivingCenter, Waynesburg. Born Anna Marie Viscusi, September 4, 1924, she was the oldest of four children and the only daughter of Italian immigrants. Her childhood in New Jersey was a happy one and molded by the events that made hers "the Greatest Generation," including the Great Depression, World War II and prohibition. As a young woman, she supported her family and country by working at naval shipyards in New Jersey. There, she met her future husband, Wallace Hopkins, while he was in the U.S. Navy. The two were married shortly thereafter and moved to Sewickley, where they raised their three sons, Lewis Hopkins of Sewickley, Wallace Hopkins of Crucible and Arnold "John" Hopkins of Rices Landing. The family later moved to Crucible. Known as Nina to many, she was a warm-hearted woman who welcomed everyone into her home on one condition: she insisted on feeding them. Visitors would never leave empty handed, often sent home with the many delicacies and gourmet meals she prepared fresh from the garden. The memories, teachings and joy she brought to our world will be carried on through the lives of her three sons and their families, including her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren that live across the country. Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 14, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson. A blessing service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John M. Bauer officiating. Private interment will be in Hewitt Cemetery in Rices Landing.
