In memory of
Neil Balsam
Neil R. Balsam 1931-2016 Neil R. Balsam, beloved husband of the late Beth Balsam, went to be with her in the early hours of Monday, October 3, 2016. Regardless of what his death certificate may say, Neil died of a broken heart. When Beth left us on June 25, 2016, most of Neil went with her. He tried to be strong for his daughter and his grandson, but her loss was too much for him. Having known each other since their early years and having been married for 65 years, their lives were so interwoven that they could not be apart. Simply put, they were the happiest married couple ever. Neil is survived by his daughter, Denise Balsam Tutor, and her son, Peter Tutor. For Denise, Neil was the perfect father, the best daddy ever in the whole entire world. He was her hero and no other human being could match him. He is also survived by his sister in law, Linda Lueders, and by Lindsay Dugat. He is further survived by his elder brother, Ronald Balsam and his family; his sister, Rita Hokanson and husband, Ronnie and their family; and by his younger brother, Raymond Balsam and wife, Sedie Balsam and their family. Neil was involved in the sales and marketing of plastic pipe throughout his business career. Having retired from ISCO Industries several years ago, he continued working as a consultant for them until the present. His knowledge of the industry was unsurpassed. Whenever anyone had a problem or a question Neil was the person to contact. He always knew the answer. The industry has lost a leader and a valuable source of knowledge. Neil's favorite pastime was golf. When Denise was young and was asked what her daddy did, she said that he played golf. She thought that was his job. And, he was very good at it. He played almost every major course in the United States, his favorites being anywhere in Palm Springs and anywhere along the Pacific Coast Highway, especially Pebble Beach. Even though she never played, Beth often rode in the cart with him, sharing his love of the sport and sharing their love for each other. Neil was a good man, being honest in his business life and in his personal life. He treated everyone with dignity and respect, unless they made him mad. He was a proud graduate of St. Thomas High School, Houston, Texas, Class of 1949, and he honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Naifeh, DE 352. Special thanks go to Texas Oncology, Deke Slayton Cancer Center, in Clear Lake, Texas. There are too many of them to name individually but they all loved Neil and Beth, making the many years of cancer treatment bearable. Neil's oncologist, Dr. Anish Meerasahib, deserves the family's untold gratitude for his caring concern. He is an excellent, compassionate physician and a fine human being. A memorial service will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 3131 El Dorado Blvd., Houston, Texas 77059 on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
