Thurner, Max J. Passed into Eternal Life on Monday, October 11, 2016. Age 90. Preceded in death by his first wife, Lore Thurner; infant daughter, Lore Thurner and his sister, Maxine Thurner. Beloved husband of Agnes. Loving father of Mark (Jackie) Thurner, Karen (David) Daoust, Kris (Tim) Mannchen and Kathy (Kelvin) Johnson. Adoring grandpa of Megan (Derek), Alison, Melissa (Marcus), Andrea, Katlyn, Alex, Matt, Michelle, Danielle, Nichole, Marty, Tyler and Stephanie. Proud great-grandpa of Morgan and Kira. Also survived by Agnes' son, Leonard (Sue). Preceded in death by Agnes' daughter Robin. Max will be missed by other relatives and friends. Visitation at the Funeral Home Friday, October 14 from 4 PM to 7 PM. Additional visitation at the Funeral Home Saturday, October 15 from 9 AM until time of Service 10 AM. Procession to Wisconsin Memorial Park to follow. Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church 7877 N. Port Washington Road Glendale, WI 53217 appreciated. Max was born in Milwaukee in 1926 to German Immigrants. He and his twin sister, Maxine, attended 5th St. School and then he attended Boy's Tech. Max enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during and after World War II in the Pacific. He returned to Milwaukee and completed his tool and die apprenticeship. He began work at AC Spark Plug before returning to Naval Reserve for two years in the Korean Conflict. Upon returning, he married Hannelore Klatt and resumed his career with General Motors. Max served for 37 years at GM - most with Delco Electronics in Oak Creek. He received awards for his work on the Apollo and Gemini Guidance Systems. He retired in 1987 to enjoy his home in Mequon where he resided for 59 years. He cared for Lore until her death in 1990. A few years later, Max and met and married Agnes. They enjoyed 23 years of life together. Max was a dedicated father and grandfather. He enjoyed square dancing, astronomy, and helping at his church, St. John's Lutheran in Glendale. He also enjoyed his Navy reunions and participated in the Honor Flight.
