Col. Larry Wayne Madden
Col. Larry Wayne Madden, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife and children, priest, deacon and dear friends. Funeral: 3 p.m. Friday at Saint Peter's Orthodox Church, 7601 Bellaire Drive, Fort Worth. Interment: 2:15 p.m. Monday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood. Larry Wayne Madden, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Shreveport, La., the son of Travis LeRoy Madden and Phala Mae Kelley Madden. He attended high school at Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, Centenary College in Shreveport, La., and graduated with a business degree from Oklahoma City University in 1964. He received a master's degree in criminal justice from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in 1976. He joined the Unites States Air Force in August of 1964 and received his commission Nov. 10, 1964. He served in Texas, Mississippi, Spain, Germany and Omaha, Nebraska, achieving the rank of Colonel. Col. Madden retired from the U.S. Air Force, after 30 years of service, in November of 1994. In addition to his military service, Col. Madden was a real estate agent and property manager and worked for the Veteran's Commission, State of Texas. Col. Madden was a devout member of Saint Peter's Orthodox Church in Fort Worth. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Association and he was a Mason. Friends remember him as a gregarious, fun-loving man who loved to tell stories, travel and drink the occasional glass of wine. He loved to help others and he would never say no to anyone he knew that needed his help. He married Katherine Ann Armold in Biloxi, Miss., in 1966. Survivors: Wife, Katherine Madden of Bluff Dale; daughter, Diana Olson of Takoma Park, Md.; son, Travis Madden of Bluff Dale; sisters, Cherlyn Croom of Alexandria, La. and Nancy Madden of Shreveport, La.; son-in-law, Lars Olson; grandson, Ole Olson; and granddaughter, Katherine Olson of Takoma Park, Md.
