In memory of
Mary Boornazian, 85, of West Hartford passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Hartford, CT on April 14, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Boornazian of West Hartford, and predeceased by her loving brother, Charles (Garo) Boornazian and his wife Anne (Rustigian) Boornazian. Mary grew up in Hartford, and graduated from Bulkley High School, as an honor student, in June 1949. After high school, she began her career at the Phoenix where she filled various roles, including assistant to the President. She retired in 1984. Mary was truly an all-star aunt. Her enthusiastic involvement with her great nieces and great nephews was legendary. From sleepovers, to shopping, to church, she was always there to help with a warm, loving smile. Whether it was power walking, September back to school shopping, co-hosting soccer pasta parties, State Championships or graduations, she was proudly at every major holiday and event. Mary was a devout member of St. Stephen's Armenian Church in New Britain, where she was an active participant of the ladies guild. She was devoted to the church, and spent a lot of time orchestrating: picnics, bake sales, raffles, or helping with anything that was asked of her. When Mary wasn't supporting her great nieces and nephews in their various sports and activities, she enjoyed attending the Goodspeed Opera House and The Bushnell. Mary was also an avid supporter of UCONN Women's basketball, like her brother, (Garo). She was extremely proud of her Armenian heritage and instilled this in her loving family. Mary was always kind, generous, unselfish and playful. She is survived by her nephew Charles H. Boornazian and his wife Barbara Boornazian of Farmington, CT, her niece Patricia Boornazian-Macdonald and her husband Andrew Macdonald of Raynham, MA, her great nieces: Sarah Boornazian, whom she was also Godmother to, and Bonnie Boornazian, great nephews: Sean Macdonald, Cameron Macdonald and Bryan Boornazian. Her family would also like to thank the UCONN hospital staff and the Hospice staff of Hartford Healthcare at Home Michelle & Diana. Calling hours will be held at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home 136 South Main Street, West Hartford CT on Saturday October 15, from 11-12, with a service after calling hours.
