Gary Logan Lawrence
Lawrence, Gary Logan Jan 22, 1936 - Oct 8, 2016 Gary Logan Lawrence died in Sarasota, Florida, Oct. 8, 2016, surrounded by family and friends, after a valiant fight battling kidney, heart, and lung disease. A celebration of Gary's life was held at St. Wilfred Episcopal Church, 3773 Wilkinson Road, Sarasota, FL 34233, with Reverend Virginia Herring officiating. An interment ceremony at Sarasota National Cemetery with full military honors will be held at a later date. Gary was born in Wichita, KS on January 22, 1936. He graduated from Southwest High School, Kansas City, MO and continued on to receive a B.A. of Philosophy from Baker University. Gary served actively in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1967 and flew as a pilot in the Naval reserves 1967 through 1970. He flew as flight engineer for Trans World Airlines and as captain and Chief Flight Instructor for United Parcel Service, until his retirement in January 2003. Throughout this life, Gary was known and loved for his integrity, prodigious intelligence, and work ethic as well as his sense of fun and mischief. He enjoyed music, golf, fishing, word games of all sorts, and online poker. He was a well-respected instructor of driver safety through AARP and also actively involved in Men of AIM and Golden Pelicans. Gary is survived by his wife, Keith Miller, brother, Bill Lawrence, his children, David and Kathy Lawrence, his stepchildren Adrienne Six and Ron Watrous, Chris and Michael Martin, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Dwight and Eva Lawrence. Gary's family wishes to thank his wonderful doctors, especially Drs. Steven Fineman and Rabih Loutfi and everyone at Tidewell Hospice who made his last day so beautiful .
