Joan Quirk
May 30, 2014 Joan Quirk, 81, of Cumbola, passed away Friday morning at her residence. Born in New Philadelphia, Oct. 6, 1932, she was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Marchetti Deem. Joan was a graduate of the former Blythe Township High School, New Philadelphia, and Pottsville School of Nursing. She was a member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, New Philadelphia, and their choir. She was employed as a registered nurse and retired after 43 years with Pottsville Hospital as a dietary supervisor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Deem. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Emmett Quirk, Cumbola; two daughters, Jayne and her husband, Blaine Crowther, Barboursville, Va., and Nancy Quirk, Cumbola; two sisters, Dorothy Dooley, Harrisburg, and Arlene Weis, Middleport; and two grandchildren, Ashleigh and Derek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, New Philadelphia, with the Rev. Ronald J. Minner as celebrant. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
