Perry Hawkins HICKORY Mr. Perry Ray Hawkins, 89, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice Home. He was born March 16, 1924, in Wilkes County, the son of Benjamin and Hettie Sanders Hawkins. He was a member of Warlick's Baptist Church, where he had been involved in many different ministries. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was retired from Grand Manor Furniture with over 30 years of service. Perry was a gentle man, who had a great sense of humor and was devoted to his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Naomi Beane. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia Throneburg Hawkins; a daughter, Teresa H. Ramsey and husband, Doug, of Hickory; a granddaughter, Danielle Pope, of Claremont; a great-granddaughter, Micaela Pope, of Claremont; six sisters, Violet Hawkins, Zelma Coffey, Dean Annas, Novella Benfield, all of Lenoir, Eloise Bolick, of Connelly Springs, and Vernice Whisnant, of Rutherford College; three brothers, Ross Hawkins and Grady Hawkins, both of Lenoir and Hurley Hawkins, of Hudson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Catawba Funerals and Cremations by Pastor Gary Murry. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
