Mulford Crail "Mutt" Jerrell
Mulford Crail "Mutt" Jerrell, 95, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, with his family by his side. Born Feb. 27, 1918, in Jackson County. He was the son of William Henry "Harry" and Lula (Abbott) Jerrell. On March 25, 1939, in Columbus, he married Mary Luella Alexander, who preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2006. Mutt was a member of Central Christian Church in Seymour. He was a private first class in the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion during World War II with the U.S. Army. Mutt was an expert marksman and was a recipient of four Bronze Stars and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 and Eagles Aerie 655 of Seymour. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Michael) Foster; grandchildren, Whitney (Tim) Fox and Corey (Sarah) Foster; sisters-in-law, Sophia Stanfield and Jean Bohall; brother-in-law, George Bohall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Ernest Jerrell, Clyde Jerrell and Leonard Jerrell; sister, Evelyn Henry; and two infant sisters. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Wright officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour, with a Voss dove release. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday. Memorials may be written to Central Christian Church or the donor's choice of charity.
