In memory of
Peggy Leonhardt MORGANTON Peggy Joan Perrou Leonhardt, 78, of Morganton, went to be with our Savior Monday, May 6, 2013. Born in Burke County May 25, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Stephen Phillip Perrou and Lora Mouser English Perrou. She was a loving wife to her husband, Henry, for 63 years, who preceded her in death just eight days earlier. They were devoted to each other and were inseparable. Peggy was a devoted member of El Bethel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for her group of senior ladies, whom she cherished. Mom was an avid reader and had thousands of books that she read and sold at her PJ's Bookstore. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress, prayer warrior, and above all a true friend. During her early years, she worked at Shadowline and later at Oak Hill School cafeteria. She also worked with Dad for over 40 years sewing in their shop. The family was first in Mom and Dad's life, and later the grand and great-grandchildren became their biggest blessing. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Derr Leonhardt II and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh, Larry Leonhardt and wife, Myra and Alan Leonhardt and wife, Carolyn, all of Morganton; a daughter, Sandra Powell and husband, Tony, of Rutherford College; grandchildren, Amy VanHook and husband, John, Lisa Doherty and husband, Frank, Jessica Epley and husband, Dustin, Kelly Leonhardt, Leslie Edwards and husband, Chris, David Leonhardt, Lindsay Leonhardt, Jesse Powell, Cassie Powell and Corey Powell; and great-grandchildren, Grant, Luke, and Mark VanHook, Alex, Will, and Abby Doherty and C.J. and Makenna Edwards. Thank you for raising us all in a Godly home, sacrificing everything to make us all so special. Mom, you will be missed. Peggy is also survived by her brothers, Stephen "Tavy" Perrou Jr., of Rutherford College and Anthony "Tony" Perrou, of Sacramento, Calif. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at El Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at El Bethel Baptist Church. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
