Michael Anthony McCoy
On the morning of December 2, 2012, Michael Anthony McCoy was called to sing in the heavenly choir. He was born March 28, 1966 in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Ora S. McCoy and the late Deacon Edward L. McCoy Sr. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Deacon John McCoy, Deaconess Jessie B McCoy, Deacon George W. Scruggs and Deaconess Elnora Scruggs-Megginson. Michael joined Mt. Airy Baptist Church in October 1975. After graduating as Valedictorian from Appomattox High School he furthered his education graduating from Princeton University in New Jersey. As a young man, Michael moved to New York City and worked in the entertainment industry to include television, radio, screen and the stage productions. These were just a few of Michael's accolades which would lead him to various positions from producer to performer. He toured and performed integral vocal parts of projects with well known artists such as Bill Cosby, Debbie Allen, Tom Jones, Paul Simon, Garrison Keillor, James Taylor, Sting and Spike Lee, to name a few. As a young man, he performed with several groups singing a-cappella with True Image, The Princeton Tigertones, and The Nottingham Choir. He has experienced numerous unique positions contributing to his confidence to tackle roles in all areas of his life. He leaves to cherish his loving memory a loving and caring mother, Ora Scruggs McCoy; a devoted brother, Edward L. McCoy, Jr. (Jackie); loving nephew Reid and a special niece, Haley; two aunts, Elizabeth Jones and Martha Jennings; two uncles, Raymond McCoy (Vivian) and Rueben McCoy (Mina); devoted cousins, John McCoy (Doris) and John Scruggs (Charlene and family); numerous cousins and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Appomattox VA, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. A homegoing service will be held 2pm, Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. The fellowship dinner will be held at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Appomattox, VA. Interment will be in the Scruggs Family Cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The cortege will assemble at the residence.
