Gerard F. Vogel
Gerard F. Vogel, 83 Gerard F. Jerry Vogel, 83, husband of Barbara M. (Brennan) Vogel, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday morning, October 15, 2011, at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Boston on February 23, 1928, he was the seventh and last child born to the late Nicholas and Blanche (Keefe) Vogel. Jerry had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was later assigned to the USS Constitution in Charlestown, MA. He was an avid member of the Gloucester AMVETS Post 32, the Gloucester DAV Chapter 74 and committee member for the World War II Memorial. He married the love of his life Barbara and happily shared 64 years of marriage together. Jerry worked as a Gloucester Fire Fighter during the 1950s until taking a job with EG&G of Boston, now part of Raytheon, where he retired from. He was the first van driver for Senior Come Care Service, an affiliate of Action. Jerry and Barbara enjoyed music, dancing and the company of family and friends. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up. Jerry always had something nice to say about everyone and made people feel special. He loved to help out his community and was an avid fund raiser for the Rose Baker Senior Center. Jerry lived his life to the fullest, a free spirit, and with his passing, his spirit is now free. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his children, Theresa Benham and husband Robert of Gloucester, Peter Vogel; grandchildren Brittany (Benham) Viator and husband Ryan of Gloucester, Brooke Benham, Mari Benham and Robert Benham III, all of Gloucester; great grandchild Cruz Viator; sister Mary Parma and husband Daniel of Braintree; and his brother Joseph Vogel and wife Eileen of Daytona Beach, FL.; brothers-in-law John Brennan and wife Vivien of Halifax, MA., James Brennan of Magnolia; sisters-in-law Marjorie Frontiero and husband Anthony of Gloucester, Eileen Flick and husband John of Dover, NH, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Friends of Seacoast, Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
