Michael Lloyd Benedict
Michael Lloyd Benedict, a 33-year resident of Twentynine Palms, died Feb. 11, 2016, at Eisenhower Medical Center. He was 68 years old. The son of Lloyd and Clara Benedict, he was born June 27, 1947, in Downey. Mr. Benedict served in the Marine Corps for 20 years, working with MCCS Maintenance. He joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and retired in 1986. He was a member of Oasis Community Church, Disabled American Veterans and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society. He loved to golf and to travel. He really enjoyed volunteering and driving the DAV van to take veterans to doctor appointments in Loma Linda. He was a docent at the Schoolhouse Museum in Twentynine Palms. He is survived by his wife, RuEllyn Benedict, of Twentynine Palms, his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jeff Shamblin, of Highland, his daughter, Robyn Benedict, of Twentynine Palms, and his sister, Marjorie Bennett, of Gulfport, Mississippi. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Joshua and Ryan Shamblin. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at Oasis Community Church in Twentynine Palms. A graveside service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the National Cemetery in Riverside. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Disabled American Veterans.
