Florence (Stewart) Brown
Florence Marie (Stewart) Brown was born May 5, 1921 in Denver, CO. She passed at Hospice of Mercy in Durango on December 31, 2018. Her Father was Charles Thomas Stewart, and her mother was Alice Marie (Jones) Stewart, both deceased. Her greatest joy in life was learning about people, the world, love and God. She worked in Washington DC during WW II (1941-1945) for US Government Federal Intelligence Services as a secretary compiling overseas radio broadcasts for distribution to President Roosevelt, the Joint Chiefs, and other key officials. In May of 1948 Florence married Roscoe Merle Brown and moved to Goodland, KS where he was a Rexall pharmacist. In 1950 they purchased the Basin Rexall Drugstore in Durango, CO at 863 Main Avenue. After retirement in 1972, Florence and Ross traveled extensively and enjoyed their Cascade cabin. Florence enjoyed gardening, hiking the outdoors, playing bridge, and reading. Florence also led a New Thought spiritual study group for decades. She loved all nature and the six dogs and one cat who lived with her during her lifetime. At her request, there will be no funeral. A memorial service and spreading of ashes on Engineer Mountain will be held summer, 2019 at the Cascade Creek cabin north of Durango that she loved. Florence is survived by son Douglas Stewart Brown (Billings, MT), Gregory Lee Brown (Sugar Land, TX), daughter in law Cheryl Brown (Sugar Land, TX) and grand-daughters Natalie Marie Brown (Manhattan, NY) and Vanessa Catherine Brown (Brooklyn, NY).
