BARRE CITY - Eva A. Cassavoy, 97, of Batchelder Street, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at the University of Vermont Medical Center Hospital Hospice Unit in Berlin, Vermont, with her family at her bedside. Born in St. Samuel, Quebec, on Sept. 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Gagnon) Lavigne. At an early age, the family moved to Vermont where she attended schools in Stowe, Vermont, and Manchester, New Hampshire. After her schooling, she was employed as a "mother's helper" in Montpelier, then later was employed at the capacitor plant in Barre. On Aug. 30, 1940, she married Richard A. Cassavoy in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. They resided on Batchelder Street in Barre, Vermont. Eva was an avid gardener and beekeeper. Later in life, she enjoyed bowling, swimming and travel. She also enjoyed "health living" classes at the Barre Senior Center. She was an early adopter of solar technology and other energy conservation methods. She mostly enjoyed time with her husband, who passed away on Feb. 19, 1997, and her family. Survivors include her children Sue Stone, of Barre Town, Michael Cassavoy and his wife, Barbara, of Melrose, Massachusetts, Sandra and her husband, Dick Kelly, of Florida, Robert Cassavoy and his wife, Suzanne, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Sheila and her husband, Bob Rochefort, of Kissimmee, Florida; as well as 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Lucienne Bourque; and three brothers Alfred, Emile, Ernest Lavigne; and one son-in-law, Bill Stone. A Mass of Christian burial to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer St., Barre, Vermont. Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, on Friday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. Extra parking is available in St. Monica's parking lot. Burial will follow the Mass in Hope Cemetery in Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva's honor can be made to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
