The Reverend Ellen Sears Harkey, 73, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at her home. Born Dec. 13, 1944 in Portsmouth, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie L. Sears and Thelma Leonard Sears. She was a graduate of East Rowan High School, King's College, Pfeiffer University and Duke Divinity School. She was a retired minister with the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving multiple congregations in her long career. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Luther Harkey; daughter, Beth Harkey (Kirk Klingler); son, Jeff Harkey (Angie); brother, Dan Sears (Glenna); grandchildren, Charlie Klingler, Will Klingler, Ashley Harkey and Syndy Harkey; and great-grandchildren, Ariana McCrary and Xander McCrary. Visitation & Service: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Charlie Curtis officiating. Memorials: Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Women's Legacy Fund Endowment, the United Methodist Committee on Relief or the Alzheimer's Association.
