Elberta Cole (Bert) Tatum
Elberta (Bert) Cole Tatum Elberta was born on October 15, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA to William and Grace Cole. In 1929 the family moved to Phoenix where she lived for the rest of her life. Elberta was married to Robert W. Tatum on July 28, 1959. Elberta was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University. She returned to college later in life earning her B.A. in Education in 1964. She then did the work she loved teaching 2nd grade for 16 years before retiring. She loved people, games and parties, especially golf, scrabble, dominoes, and bridge. She also served her community as a Girl Scout leader, active church member, volunteer reading teacher and member of the hospital auxiliary. She is survived by her son, John Tatum; daughters, Barbara Tatum and Lee Anne Barrick; grandchildren, Liza Tatum, Heather Tatum and Justin Tatum; great-grandchildren, Casey, Jacob, Tyler and Airanne; and several great-great-grandchildren. Elberta passed away peacefully July 17, 2018, with her family at her side. Services were held on July 21, 2018. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley in lieu of flowers.
