In memory of
1948-2011 Douglas "Doug" "Papa" Newport of Alta Loma, CA, passed away May 4, 2011, at the age of 63. Doug was born in Erie, PA, on January 22, 1948, and came to Ontario, CA, at the age of 6. He was a 1966 graduate of Chaffey High School and attended Chaffey College, earning many certificates in the construction trade. Doug's career covered many areas in construction. He was a certified inspector, project manager, and estimator. He was currently working for LAUSD. Doug was a project manager on very large building projects in LAUSD. Doug previously owned CMI School in Orange, CA, and had worked for the City of Los Angeles as an estimator. Doug was a fisherman who enjoyed using the phrase "The early bird catches the worm.". He enjoyed traveling, camping, rock hunting and helping his family and neighbors with construction projects. He was always there to lend a hand. He enjoyed the time spent at Big Bear Lake and Campland in San Diego, California, with his family and friends. Doug is survived by his wife, Connie Newport; mother, Violet Newport; brother, Roy Newport; daughters, Katie Alpert, Tammie Ashley & Charlene Newport; sons, Michael Alpert, Shane St. John; & son-in-law, Jon Ashley, along with grandchildren, Jonathan Ashley, Joshua Ashley, Jordan Ashley, Christina Newport, Dawna Jean Newport, and Cayden St. John, and many loving nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his previous wife, Marlene, and his father, Roy Newport. He will be deeply missed, but his inspiration, humor, and intelligence will remain part of the memories of everyone who knew him. Services will be at the Chapel at Draper Mortuary in Ontario, CA, Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 4 P.M. Interment will be private. A gathering will follow the memorial at the Newport residence.
