Doris M.V. (Virdin) Carrow
Doris M.V. Carrow (Virdin), age 85, of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Doris was a native Delawarean, born on December 31, 1932 in Smyrna Landing. She is the daughter of the late Harry F. and Elizabeth (Bennett) Virdin. Doris was a loving mother who supported her children in their endeavors. In her early life she worked daily on the farm while raising her children and later became a journeyman house painter, working at Dover Air Force Base and eventually owning her own painting contractor business. She was a very artistic person, who enjoyed painting nature scenes. She displayed her watercolor paintings at the Dover Art League and local Smyrna venues. She also enjoyed gardening and getting together with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Arthur David Carrow. Doris is survived by her sister, Jane Davis of Clayton, Delaware; her brother, Harry Arthur and Ann Virdin of Smyrna; three sons, Walter and Frances Lynn Carrow of Clayton, Robert and Teresa Carrow of Townsend, Delaware, and Daniel and Gail Carrow of Odessa, Delaware; two daughters, Dora (Carrow) and Jack Wisniewski of Townsend, and Alisa Carrow Bentley of Smyrna; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, in Smyrna. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Doris to a charity of your choice.
