Donald W. Jones Springfield - Donald W. Jones, 81, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019. He was born on June 16, 1937, in Cabool, Missouri, to R. Wayne Jones and Thelma Mae (Daniels) Jones. He and his family were members of the Church of the Brethren. Don graduated from Cabool High School where he was active in student leadership and sports. By all accounts he was an inspiring speaker even then. Don attended McPherson College. While serving as the Executive Secretary to the President of International Voluntary Services he attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After returning to and graduating from McPherson in 1960, he was a federal bank examiner before attending the University of Missouri School of Law. There, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi, the Order of the Coif, and the Missouri Law Review. After graduating in 1964, he was an associate attorney for Ransom Ellis in the firm Walker, Daniel, Clampett, Ellis & Rittershouse. He later left the firm and joined with several young lawyers to start the firm that became Church, Prewitt, Jones, Wilson & Karchmer. In 1984 he started the firm that became known as Hulston, Jones & Marsh. He practiced with that firm until his retirement. Don loved practicing law. He was a vigorous advocate for his clients and still felt deep loyalty and camaraderie towards his clients till his dying day. Don was known and respected for his expertise in labor and employment law and other areas of the law. In 1972 he became one of the very few attorneys to argue a case before the United States Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the National Commission on Employment Policy, and was re-appointed by President George H.W. Bush. Don was active in the community, serving as a longtime member of the Board of Cox Health Systems, the Springfield Contractors Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and a number of other organizations. He enjoyed membership in the Rotary Club of Springfield and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Missouri Bar, the Springfield Metropolitan Bar and the American Bar Associations. He married the former Linda L. Rumfelt on February 18, 1967. They reared their children, Aaron and Aubrietta, in Springfield, where they were active members of King's Way United Methodist Church. After Linda's passing, he was married to the former Carol Sue Roberts January 18, 2009. Together they enjoyed travel, family and friends. Don enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and University of Missouri teams. He was an avid watcher of the stock market. Don enjoyed the accomplishments of all his family members, and he delighted in watching his grandchildren grow and change. Don's family includes his beloved wife, Carol; son Aaron (Cara), of Springfield, and their children Kate Hall, Carter Hall, and Caleb Jones; a daughter, the Rev. Aubrietta Jones (Rev. Jeff Warrick) of Maumelle, Arkansas, and their children Daphne and Sabrina Warrick; and brothers Gary Jones and Roy Jones (Karen); nephews Brent Jones and the late Brad Jones, and nieces, Lori Kimball (the late Tom Kimball) and Jackie Jones; his step-daughter Carrie Henry (the late Matt Henry), and their children Elizabeth, Jared and Joshua; step-son Brad Roberts (Janet) of Cabool, and their children Kizzi Hutcheson (Ryan) and Spencer Roberts; and lifelong friend Rick Hood (Pat). He is also survived by many other friends and family. Visitation will be 4-6pm Thursday and the funeral on Friday, 10am, both at King's Way United Methodist Church, Rev. Robert C. Moger, presiding.
