In memory of
Donald Lewis Lankford
Donald Lewis Lankford, 78, of Laurel, while surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born in Salisbury, Md. on Dec. 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Alton Carter and Pauline Nibblett Lankford. Don, as he was best known, was a graduate of Seaford High School and a longtime member of the Portsville U.M. Church. He had served with the Delaware National Guard from 1956 through 1962. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and crabbing with his family and friends. Don loved his family dearly, spending quality time with them and making everyone around him smile. He touched everyone he encountered with his great sense of humor and kindness, especially his great grandchildren, Zoe Meadow and Jaxon Brock, who were the apples of his eye. Mr. Lankford had been a Home Beneficial Life Insurance agent for a number of years and later became a bailiff \supervisor with the state family court system in Georgetown, retiring in 2003 after serving 20 years. Don is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Sherry E. Lankford; a son, Chase Jester; two daughters, Debbie (David) Whaley and Kim (Cathi) Lankford; two brothers, Gene (Mary Burt) Lankford and Steven (Beanie) Lankford; two grandsons, Brock C. (Jami) Gordy and Josh L. (Ann Marie) Gordy; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Jaxon Gordy and arriving soon, baby boy Gordy; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service and life celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Laurel Fire Department Hall, 10th Street, Laurel. Pastor Bruce Rogers will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the fire hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Care Center at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, 701 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE 19973.
