Donald C. Manning
Donald C. Manning, 68, of Raritan Township, N.J., died on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his residence. Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington, N.J. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., on March 23, 1943, Donald was the son of the late Adolf and Margaret McEntee Manning. A graduate of Missouri Valley College, where he was a member of the athletic department Hall of Fame, Mr. Manning went on to play professional baseball with the New York Yankees AAA club, the Toledo Mud Hens. Mr. Manning had a long teaching career with the East Amwell Township schools, where he taught physical education and health, and coached baseball and basketball. He also served as the athletic director. The baseball fields in East Amwell are named for him. He was currently the baseball coach at Hopewell Valley High School and was also active in Legion baseball, where he coached the Flemington team for many years. He is survived by extended family and his best friends, Ralph and Nancy Bianchi of Ringoes, N.J., and Mary Venettone of Penn Valley, Pa.
