Mr. David H. "Dink" Bare
Mr. David H. "Dink" Bare, 96, of Snyder Ave., Waynesboro, PA, died unexpectedly on August 28, 2018 in the Emergency Room of the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 1, 1922 on Airport Road in the Rouzerville area, he was the son of the late Clarence G. and Lurenia (Kauffman) Bare, Sr. Mr. Bare was a 1940 graduate of Washington Township High School. He and his wife Doris M. (Potter) Bare were married in Green Cove Springs, Florida on January 16, 1945. They moved to their home on Snyder Ave in November of 1951. Doris passed away on April 19, 2013. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where he was a member of the Crider Men's Bible Class. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he operated Bare's Exxon Service Station at 11189 Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro, PA, for thirty five years. He also built and operated Bare's Carwash next to the service station. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S.N.R. (Navy) as a naval aviator in a fighter squadron (VF65) aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tripoli (CVE 101) in the Pacific Theater. He served from 1942 until 1957 as a LT JG. Mr. Bare was a life member of the Rouzerville Fish and Game Association where he was manager of the fish nursery for many years. He was an experienced hunter, trapper and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. Mr. Bare worked as a volunteer at the Washington Township Transfer Station, accumulating 8,600 hours over twelve years, where he helped organize the first recycling center. He was employed as a hunting guide for five years at a ranch in Texas leased by Grove Manufacturing Co. He is survived by two sons: Thomas L. Bare and his wife, Stephanie, and their son, David, of Ellington, CT and John D. Bare of Waynesboro, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence G. Bare, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro, with Pastor Karl R. Herman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
