In memory of
Craig D. Smith, 66, loving husband and father of three children, of Nicholson, passed away unexpectedly in Belleair Beach, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020. He and his wife Nancy A. Smith would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26. Born May 11, 1954, in Scranton, Craig is the son of the late Francis and Ruth Francis Smith. Upon graduating from Abington Heights High School, Craig completed his Bachelor of Science from Bloomsburg University while serving as a noble member of the Delta Omega Chi fraternity in 1977. After completing his education, Craig joined his father and brother in their family business, Francis Smith & Sons. FS&S was started by his grandfather in 1936. With hard work and determination, Craig became company president. Together he and his work family endeavored tirelessly to grow and expand FS&S and Smith Air Center. Craig was a founding member and past president of the Tank Installers of Pennsylvania, member, and past board director of the Petroleum Equipment Institute. By 2015, FS&S had outgrown its Chinchilla roots, relocated to Scott Township, and added Smith Industrial Solutions to the Smith family companies. Finally, after 40 years, Craig passed along the family legacy to the 4th generation and partially retired to spend more time with the love of his life, Nancy. Together they loved to travel to Belleair Beach, cruise around on their boat, and fish at Lake Winola. They enjoyed spending time with friends, but most importantly loved spending time with their grandchildren. Misten Lister! Craig had a unique sense of humor with an arsenal of jokes as deep as the line at the Nicholson Potato Pancake Stand. He was born in Yankee pinstripes, bled Giant's blue, and got a green thumb at 66. Indycar grabbed his attention and he cherished sharing the sport with Nick and Nancy. When he was home, he enjoyed sitting by his pond watching his fish and frogs. He was a member of Nicholson Masonic Lodge #438, the Nicholson Athletic Association, and board member of the Nicholson Heritage Association. He also is a proud supporter of the Nicholson Fire Company, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, and Interfaith. Craig continued the tradition of supporting and sponsoring a team in the Abington Little League for over 50 years. Craig was truly a family man and loved his work. One of his favorite events was the company Christmas party. He always led the celebration with a memorable act that will never be duplicated. Craig left a lasting impression 'pull my finger' on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by so many. Craig is survived by his wife Nancy; his children: Nicholas Smith, Eddie Ware Jr. (Erin), Dana Edwards (John), Tank, and Hershey; a brother, Bill Smith; two sisters: Carol Ann Saar and Connie Leavsley; grandchildren: Beau, Carson, and Sam Ware, and Addison and Benjamin Edwards; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Claudia Rebuth and Carol Granville. The family will receive calling hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a private service at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21st at Francis Smith and Sons, 26 Sams Road, Scott Township, in the lower building. Masks are required and friends are asked to follow social distancing guidelines. Flowers may be sent directly to the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State St., Nicholson, by Friday, Nov. 20. Donations may be made to the Nicholson Heritage Association, P.O. Box 496, Nicholson, PA 18446; True Friends Animal Welfare Center, 16332 SR 706, Montrose, PA 18801; or the donor's favorite charity.
