Clinton Gandy Jr.
Clinton Frazier "C.F." Gandy Jr., 92, died peacefully on September 6, 2018. C.F. was born on April 9, 1926, in Farmersville, Alabama, to Clinton Frazier Sr. and Maude Gandy. In 1944, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC where he was an Engineering Equipment Operator and an instructor at Courthouse Bay. This transfer led him to meet his bride-to-be, Sybil Sharpe Gandy of Sneads Ferry. A veteran of World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War, he retired in 1970, as a Master Gunnery Sergeant after 27 years in the United States Marine Corps. After a long full career and years of service to his country, C.F. attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and obtained his degree to teach. He taught for more than a decade at Dixon Elementary and Middle schools where he enjoyed giving back to the youth of his community. He was famous to all the students for his math homework as well as his yearly hayrides and hot dog roast parties. After retiring from teaching, C.F. furthered his own education and obtained his Master Gardener Certificate while managing his grape vineyard and cattle farm. He could and would feed half the community with his bountiful garden each year and gave plenty of highly sought-after gardening advice to his family and friends. Other hobbies include the Sneads Ferry Lions Club where he was a past president and enjoyed working the annual Pinfish Tournament. He was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon at Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends at Hardees. He truly adored being part of the Sneads Ferry community. C.F. was a 32nd Degree Master Mason with the Stump Sound Masonic Lodge No. 733 A.F. & A.M.. He was initiated a Mason July 20, 1973. He was passed on November 16, 1973 and raised January 18, 1974. C.F. is survived by his wife, Sybil Sharpe Gandy of Sneads Ferry; daughter, Cathy Gandy Medlin and husband Doug of Surf City; as well as three sons, Jerry Gandy and wife Virginia "Rose" of Sneads Ferry, Gary Gandy and wife Thelma "Thud" of Sneads Ferry and Steven Gandy and wife Amy of Garner; as well as two sisters, Ruth Fore and Sue Chan of Alabama; and two brothers, John Gandy of Mississippi and Lamar Gandy of California. C.F. also has ten grandchildren, Chris Medlin, Matt Medlin, Alexis Medlin (Passingham), J.P. Gandy, Lee Gandy, Aimee Batson, Abbey Hollis, Chris Gandy, Robert Gandy and Jamie Gandy as well as 18 great-grandchildren. C.F. was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clinton Frazier Sr. and Maude Gandy as well as siblings Brooks Gandy and Lucille Wilson. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018, at Salem Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from the hours of 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in C.F.'s name to Dixon Elementary School, Salem Baptist Youth, Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Sneads Ferry H.O.P.E.
