Sister Catherine Sabatini, MPF Of the Religious Teachers Filippini, biology teacher and administrator, a 'gentle, serene presence' in the office at Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown for many years, 97 Sr. Catherine Sabatini, MPF, 97 years of age, following a long illness died early Thursday morning, Feb. 7, 2019, at St. Joseph Hall, Home Healthcare Center for the Filippini Sisters, Villa Walsh, Morristown, N.J. The viewing will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown, N.J., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. The celebrant is Rev. Ron Sordillo, chaplain at St. Joseph Hall. Interment will be in Ave Maria Cemetery, Villa Walsh. Arrangements are by the Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown, N.J. Sr. Catherine was born and raised in Madison, N.J. In 1936, she entered the Religious Teachers Filippini and received her habit in 1938. She made her final religious profession in 1941. Sr. Catherine received her BA degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Biology and a MS degree from the University of Scranton in Educational Administration. Sr. Catherine taught in both the elementary and high school levels in the Archdioceses of Hartford, Conn., and New York, N.Y. and in the Dioceses of Trenton, N.J., and Scranton, Pa. She taught high school biology for 24 years and then became dean of Dunmore Central Catholic High School. After retiring from teaching, Sister Catherine was responsible for the school office at Villa Walsh Academy for 31 years. Sr. Catherine retired from the Academy in 2004. One year later she became a resident at Saint Joseph Hall. No matter what ministry Sr. Catherine was involved in, she worked zealously and precisely, taking pride in favorable results. She was loved by her students and the people she served for her gentle, serene presence and her ability to perform her duties responsibly. Sr. Catherine was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Carolina (Spera) Sabatini; brothers, Torey, Michael, Frank, Gerald, John, Albert Sabatini and Ralph Lilly, and sisters, Connie Petroski and Mary Errico. She is survived by sister Lillian Nardone and many devoted, beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
