Bill Lane
Bill Lane Bill Lane, 85, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on December 1, 2007. William Elbert Lane was born December 4, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Letha Delafield Lane and Elbert James Lane. On April 5, 1947 Bill married Tommy Gene Rives of Weslaco, Texas. They were happily married for over 58 years until she passed away June 1, 2004. Bill served his country and was a decorated Army veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Texas. Bill started his family in Weslaco, Texas and in 1960 moved to Austin, Texas, where he taught and coached football in the Austin Public School System until his retirement in 1985. Bill was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Hill City Lodge #456 and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He served as an adult leader with the Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was a lifelong supporter of many local charities. He was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Lee Lane and his wife Tommy Gene Lane. Survivors include son, Tom Lane and wife Flo of Holland, Texas, son, Jim Lane of Kerrville, Texas, daughter- in-law, Alicia Lane, grandson, William Lane and wife Carol of Valley Mills, Texas, granddaughter, Melissa Lane of Kerrville, Texas, granddaughter, Crystal Lane of Abilene, Texas, grandson, Chris Lane of Austin, Texas and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030 The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Harris, Pastor of Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks.. http://www.mem.com
