In memory of
Joan Stella Quain Reid
Joan Stella Quain Reid Sheboygan - Joan passed away quietly in the afternoon of March 1, 2021 in the home she shared with me, her daughter Mary, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for the last 15 months. She was surrounded by her five loving children who were all present in the last few days of her life. Mummzie, as I affectionately called her, was 87. She was a 100%, authentic Irish gal with beautiful fair skin and slightly curly, gray hair that seemed to stay blond until she was 85. Her adoring husband Richard, preceded her in death in October of 2019. They had celebrated more than 65 years of marriage together. Their six children were their pride and joy. Son, Timothy (second oldest), sadly preceded both his parents in death as a child. Surviving children, Ellen Reid, Mary Reid, Anna Clemmensen, Dee Wruble and Patrick Reid reside within Michigan and Wisconsin. Mom loved her seven grandchildren; Kelsey Monkman, Ian Monkman, Samuel Clemmensen, Grace Clemmensen, Lauren Wruble, Kevin Wruble and Nate Reid. Beautiful Ava Monkman was her first great granddaughter. Joan's parents, Howard M. Quain and Evelyn V. McMahon Quain, in addition to her three older bothers, Howard Quain, Ronald Quain and Leo Quain, all preceded her in death. Joan was a career woman, starting a bit later in life. She proudly earned her associates degree in the field of medical records when she was 42 and retired with much success from a hospital in the greater Detroit area. While living with me, here in Sheboygan, Mummzie did become a Wisconsin resident. She enjoyed living along the shores of Lake Michigan and frequent visits to the Sheboygan Yacht Club for great food and a comfortable atmosphere. Nearing the end of Mom's life we brought in the help of wonderful caregivers. From the folks at Rocky Knoll to these very special people; Tracey, Cheryl, Laticia and Michelle, who spent long hours at Mom's bedside, and Coordinator/nurse Linda, to the outstanding work of Sharon Richardson Hospice — we are so appreciative of the compassionate care she received. Mummzie is heading back to her home state of Michigan, near Detroit, where she will be buried with Dad. There will be an Irish wake (unwritten rule)…perhaps not as large as she might have wanted, but we will do our best to toast her great life.
