Ruth Estelle Williamson
Ruth Estelle Williamson February 27, 1922 - January 17, 2021 Bradenton, Florida - Ruth Estelle Williamson, 98, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 17 at her home with her children by her side. Ruth was born February 27, 1922 in Memphis, TN to Ernest and Medora Byrd. As a child she moved from Tennessee to Detroit, MI. After graduation from Cooley High School she was employed by Ruthrauff & Ryan Advertising Company. On April 24, 1943, she married John Williamson. She lived in Brooklyn, NY during WWII holding a secretarial position in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as she awaited the return of her husband from a tour of duty in the U.S. Coast Guard. They eventually returned to the Detroit area where they raised their family. In 1983 they moved to Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island, FL finally settling in Bradenton, FL. Ruth was a member of Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, FL serving on the Board of Deacons and Co-Chair of the Hospitality Committee. She belonged to Key Royale Golf Club in Holmes Beach where she was past Vice President of the Women's Association and their Historian. Ruth was full of faith, life and laughter. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, bingo but most of all she loved to dance and play cards. She had many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. Above all, she deeply loved her family. She was an extraordinary person and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Ruth is survived by her son John Jr of Livonia, MI, daughter Susan (Jerry) Strayer of Adrian, MI and son David of Lake Orion, MI, sister-in-law, Suzanne Antisdel of Baltimore, MD, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John of 64 years, son Paul, granddaughter Linda, sister-in-law, Margaret and her parents. A special thank you to her private nurse Patty and to Tidewell Hospice. Arrangements by the National Cremation Society. A memorial service to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Smile Train or Tidewell Hospice.
