John Alt
Alt, John John Robert Alt, born in Detroit on August 28, 1924, passed away on November 30. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, and the untimely death of his son Jay William. He is survived by his wife Pauline, son John Jr. and wife Laurie of Fishers Indiana, son Jeff and wife Margaret Gillis of Ann Arbor, Jay's widow Pattijean McCahill of Grand Rapids, and by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as a small black cat named Koko. John attended The University of Michigan and graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors degree in Engineering. His college days were interrupted by service in the Navy on a submarine in the Pacific during World War II. He worked as an electrical engineer as Grand Rapids branch manager at Square D company until his early retirement in 1987, then worked as a consultant at Litscher's Electric. John was a lifelong avid golfer, and his golf highlights include seven holes-in-one. He swam competitively in college and continued his activity as a participant in the Master's swimming program into his eighties. A memorial service will take place at a future date.
