Joseph Beggetta
Joseph “Joe” J. Beggetta, 80, of Hillcrest Avenue passed away Tuesday at home with Roberta and Dino by his side. He was born in Springfield on June 28, 1939 to the late James and Helen (Kahalalis) Beggetta. Joe has lived in West Springfield his entire life and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He worked as a barber for years and retired from Nick’s Barber Shop in town. Joe ran the Fritter Castle concession stand at the Big E and the Blandford Fair for over 35 years. He was a member of West Springfield Mobile Police which is now known as the Auxiliary Police and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in West Springfield. Joe was very active in town and was a charter and lifelong member of the West Springfield / Agawam Elks Lodge and a member of the Tatham Social Club for over 50 years. He was well known for his “Famous Joe’s Spaghetti Dinners” he put on for years at both clubs. He was also a member of the UNICO Club. Joe leaves his beloved longtime partner Roberta (Lauzon) Deragon with whom he lived, his sister Janet Belliveau and her husband William of Wildomar, CA, an aunt, Marge Beggetta of West Springfield, and several cousins. Joe also leaves his extended family who knew him as Dad, brother-in-law, uncle, and Papa, they are; Michael Sullivan, Richard and Marie Prior, Brian and Paula Lauzon, Marie Ellison-Lauzon, Roberta Prior, Laurie and Christopher Ely, Rich and Mel Prior, Joe and Jessica Bernal, Brian and Tansy Lauzon, Ryan Eyler, Aaron Eyler, Brianna Ely, Jayla Bernal, and Josslyn Bernal. He will be greatly missed by his faithful dog, Dino Beggetta. Roberta would like to thank all the family and friends who helped them through these last several months. They would also want express their gratitude to the Holyoke VNA and Hospice for their care these last few weeks. The calling hours will be Tuesday 4-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld. There will be a Funeral Service Wednesday at 10:30 am at the Grace Lutheran Church, 1552 Westfield Street, West Spfld., followed by a burial at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe’s name may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Grace Lutheran Building Fund, 1552 Westfield Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
