Joseph Walters "Jeff" Lewis III
Joseph "Jeff" Walters Lewis III Son of Joseph Walters Lewis, Jr. and Anne Caroline Beech Lewis. Born August 3, 1944 in Pasadena, CA, Joseph W. "Jeff" Lewis, III, peacefully passed away on June 2, 2015. He leaves his beloved wife of 46 years, Tristine Kay Vanderpool Lewis, three children, Jonathan (Kerry Butler) David Lewis of Lake Forest Park, WA, Aaron Christopher Lewis, of Seattle, WA and Michael (Sarah Smith) James Lewis, of Auburn WA; and three grandchildren, James Butler Lewis and Mark Butler Lewis, of Lake Forest Park, WA and Samantha McKenzie Lewis of Auburn, WA. Jeff's earliest years were spent in Corpus Christi, TX and Pasadena, California. In 1947, when Jeff was three years old, his family moved to San Marino, CA. Jeff graduated from San Marino High School in 1963, where he was captain of several CIF championship tennis teams, class president, voted most outstanding student and held several service organization positions. He also enjoyed playing on the San Marino High School football team. He attended the University of Oregon on a tennis scholarship, received a B.S. in Parks and Recreation Management in 1967 and earned his M.S. in Public Recreation Administration in 1970. He played number one tennis singles for four years at U O and was Assistant Tennis Coach in 1970. He was dormitory president and was an officer in the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Jeff's parks and recreation career spanned more then 40 years, in Springfield and Eugene, OR; Franklin Park, IL and Seattle, WA. His primary job was Recreation Programs Manager for the City of Seattle. Jeff's hobbies included stream fishing for trout and steelhead, golf, water skiing, snow skiing, recreational softball and football, cheering for the Oregon Ducks and supporting his children's and grandchildren's activities. Jeff requested that people contribute, in memory of Joseph W. Lewis III, to The American Cancer Society or to The American Diabetes Association.
