Caroline Duerr
Caroline Duerr AGE: 17 • Neptune Caroline Duerr, 17, of Neptune, NJ passed away March 28, 2015 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. She was a talented musician who was known for her amazing ability to play a variety of instruments. Her violin was her favorite. Caroline was a student at Neptune High School where she was very active in the music programs and participated in the Marching Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble. She also had a talent and passion for composing and recording music. Caroline was a member of the New Jersey State Youth Orchestra where she enjoyed playing her violin. She described, in her own words, her best attributes to be her fabulous red hair which she referred to as "The Hair" and her witty, sophisticated and often inappropriate sense of humor. She was also a self-described feline enthusiast. Caroline had an incredible love and devotion to her autistic brother, Patrick. They had such a strong bond and she demonstrated a rare ability and gift to know exactly what he wanted and needed at all times. She loved autistic children in a way that is so rare for teenagers. Two years ago, Caroline had the privilege and honor of playing her violin at the dedication ceremony of Zan's Garden of Life, the memorial garden for organ donors and their families at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. This event deeply affected her and she expressed how honored she felt to be in the presence of the donor families and recipients. Her cousin, Andrew Jova, was also an organ donor and she was amazed at the strength and courage exhibited by his family. Caroline has touched and saved the lives of many people through giving the gift of life and her family is so proud and comforted to know that many recipients and families have been granted their miracles. She was our miracle for 17 years and today she is our miraculous angel and hero. Caroline is survived by her adoring parents, Bill and Kate Duerr, of Neptune and her beloved siblings Erinn, Patrick, Jonathan and Abby. She is also survived by her maternal "Grandma" Judy Keene, of Neptune City. She was predeceased by her "Grandpa", Bill Keene on January 19, 2015 and he greeted her in Heaven as she became an angel. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me like food or water."- Ray Charles
