In memory of
Carmine "Carl" Denofio passed away on April 15, 2016 after a short illness. Carl was born September 15, 1923 in Schenectady, NY to Dominick and Helen (Formichelli) Denofio. He attended Schenectady schools and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1941. He entered the Navy and served during WWII, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Four months later, In June 1946, he married, Jennie Peruzzi, and together they raised their family in Schenectady. As a youngster, Carl was a good baseball player and his sister, Millie, remarked that the team always won when Carl played. He coached youth baseball in the Jaycee Little League and Schenectady Babe Ruth League, winning league championships at both levels. He was also a bowler and league officer with the Schenectady Bowling Association. He was a former member of the Laziale Society, the Sons of Italy, and the Elks Club in Florida. He also served as a board member with Schenectady Teachers Credit Union. Professionally, Carl earned his Bachelor's Degree from Siena College in 1950, and his Master's Degree from Siena College in 1956. He was granted his permanent Teacher's Certificate in 1955. He began his teaching career at Berne Knox High School, and then taught at Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady. He completed his career in 1979, retiring as the Business Department Chairperson at Linton High School. During his time at Linton, he performed in many of the talent shows, including his role as Batman's sidekick Robin. He always held a special place for his students, and even in his retired years he would seek out former students to talk about their school days. In the early 1950's he began the Denofio Insurance Agency, and continued as a principal in the agency until his death. He was a licensed Notary Public and also prepared tax returns for his many friends, relatives, and customers for many years. Carl was always willing to help his family and friends with household projects and was a tireless worker. Just last week, at the insistence of his wife, he was standing on a chair to change a lightbulb. He was always welcoming to others, inviting them to his swimming pool, his home in Florida or to dinner at the house. He is survived by his wife, Jennie (Peruzzi) Denofio; son, Don Denofio (Nancy) of Saratoga and son, David C. Denofio (Bridget) of Niskayuna; grandchildren, Dania (Marco) Bianchi and their children, Antonio, Giana and Maia; Donya (Michael) Clute and their children, Ryan and Gavin; Marc (Laura) Denofio and their children, Madeline and Jacob; Kirsten Denofio and her children, Mackenzie and Ellahmay; Brent Denofio and his children, Rayna and Santino; Brianne Denofio and her child, Sidro. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carmella (Millie) DeCaprio and Marguerite (Peg) Wos; wonderful and loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and his Uncle William DeNovio. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, Donald D. Denofio; and a daughter, Debra Denofio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at St. Luke's Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady. The family will receive visitors, Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
