Brenda L. Flanagan, 50 STERLING - Brenda L. Flanagan, 50, of Sterling, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston surrounded by her loving family. She leaves her daughter, Ashley E. Flanagan of Houston, TX; her mother, Linda (Taylor) Yost and her husband Roger Yost of Glastonbury, CT; her longtime companion, Paul Pacheco of Sterling; two sisters, Laura A. Demers of Glastonbury, CT, and Deborah J. Correa and her husband, Jose, of Framingham, MA; her nieces, Christen Klar, Jennifer and Caitlin Szklarz, Heather, Megan, and Taylor Demers; her great nieces, and her great nephew. She also leaves many other aunts, uncles, and cousins here and in Canada as well as her beloved dog, Buster. Brenda was predeceased by her father, John J. Flanagan Jr., and her brother, John J. Flanagan III. Brenda was born at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, residing in Stoneham, MA and grew up in Auburn. She also lived in East Douglas and Charlton before moving to Sterling in 2013. Brenda was a graduate of Holy Name High School, where she was an outstanding athlete. She was captain of the field hockey and basketball teams, and also played varsity softball. She was president of her freshman class. Brenda was a residential real estate broker for many years with Trust of New England which was later bought out by Caldwell Banker. Previously, Brenda graduated from The David Hale Fanning School of Nursing and worked as a medical assistant at Fallon Clinic for 12 years. After the passing of her brother, John, in 1996, Brenda was very instrumental in creating the annual John J. Flanagan III Golf Tournament at the Heritage Country Club in Charlton, MA for 13 years. The fund awards yearly scholarships to graduating students from Auburn High School in memory of John. Brenda remained active in sports all her life. She coached softball, soccer and basketball in Douglas youth leagues for several years. She was a long-time fan of the New England Patriots and enjoyed attending several of their home games. She loved the beach and enjoyed relaxing and spending time there with family and friends. Calling hours are Monday, April 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, MA. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 3, with a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A reception will be held following the burial at O'Connor's Restaurant & Bar, 1160 W Boylston Street. Worcester, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
