Brandon Kevin Austin
Brandon Kevin Austin, age 35 of Townsend, Delaware, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones following a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, January 19, 2018. He was born on October 20, 1982 in Wilmington, Delaware. He grew up in Townsend, Delaware and graduated in 2000 from Middletown High School where he excelled at football and wrestling. Brandon worked for his father's construction company until deciding to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 2012 where he served honorably and achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class as an Information Technologist on the S.S. Chicago, a Los Angeles class submarine stationed in Yigo, Guam. While in Guam, he loved to travel to exotic locations of the South Pacific. Brandon proudly served his country, as the Navy was his calling. While home and with his family, Brandon enjoyed going to the movies with his mom and going to the renaissance fair together. He also enjoyed fishing with his father and brothers and unwinding with video games. Most admirably and true to his character, Brandon was a warrior who continued to stay positive through his fight with cancer. Brandon is survived by his mother Kathy Alfree of Dover, DE and father & stepmother Michael & MaryEllen Austin of Townsend; brothers Spike Austin of Townsend and Louie and his wife Sara Austin of Smyrna; Grandmother Joyce Alfree of Bear, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Townsend Free Will Baptist Church, 4519 DuPont Pkwy, Townsend, DE 19734 at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 25 at Townsend Free Will Baptist Church from 6-8 p.m., and again on Friday from 12-1 p.m. Interment will be immediately following the service in Townsend Cemetery. Along with flowers, donations can be made to the Warriors helping Warriors, 104 S. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709 or Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 Attn: Donation.
