In memory of
MORTON - Dr. Bonnie H. Litwiller, 74, of Morton died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at her home. She was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Morton to Marion and Helen (Huette) Litwiller. Surviving are five first cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Bonnie received her B.S./M.S. degrees from Illinois State University in Normal. She received her Math Ed.D. from Indiana University. She first taught seven years at Richwoods High School in Peoria. Bonnie later became a professor of mathematics at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, retiring in 2000. Bonnie was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Ma Epislon, Lambta Theta and Kappa Delta Pi. She also was a member of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Mathematics Association of America and the School Science and Mathematics. For the past four years, Bonnie was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In 2004, she received the Indiana University School of Education Distinguished Alumni Award. Bonnie co-authored more than 900 journal articles, published four books, edited 26 books for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and gave more than 200 presentations. She was awarded the 2003 Iowa Council of Teachers of Mathematics Lifetime Achievement Award, the 1995 University of Northern Iowa Outstanding Service Award, the 1993 Regents Award for Excellence from the Iowa Board of Regents and the 1982 Illinois State University Alumni Achievement Award. Bonnie was a member of the Community United Church of Christ in Morton, where a celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, with the Rev. Jeff Johnston officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date. Ludwig Mortuary in Morton is handling arrangements.
