In memory of
BEVERLY (CLAWSON) BOYDSTUN August 28, 1935 ~ July 18, 2018 Beverly (Clawson) Boydstun was born to Jack T. and Dorthea Clawson on August 28, 1935 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She passed away on July 18, 2018 in Vancouver, Washington. Her causes of death were dementia and digestive issues. Bev had one sister, the late Elaine (Clawson) Gear with whom she had a lifelong close, loving relationship. Bev spent her early youth in Lincoln and Aurora, Nebraska. Her family settled in Vancouver in 1946 where she attended the old Marshall Elementary School, McLaughlin Junior High and Vancouver High School class of 1953. Bev earned an AA degree at Clark College, where in 1954 she began dating Ken Boydstun. While at Clark, Bev was editor of the Galopagan (yearbook), May Queen, played field hockey, fenced, and sang in the college choir, among other leadership positions. She attended the University of Washington where she was member of the Kappa Delta sorority and graduated in 1957 with a BA in sociology. Right after college, Bev served for a year and a half as a caseworker for the state welfare department. Bev began a career with the Vancouver Public Schools as a volunteer at Marshall Elementary School. She gradually ascended through the ranks and retired as a central office secretary. Since Bev was very active in the First Congregational Church, that's where she and Ken were married in 1958. Yes, that's just a few days shy of sixty years. In addition to her commitment to the church, Bev had a relationship with Girl Scouts (GSA) that lasted from age seven to the present. She attended several national GSA encampments and participated in an international encampment in Switzerland in 1954. As an adult, she was a long time Brownie and Girl Scout leader, as well as serving on many Portland area GSA committees. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dorthea Clawson; and her sister, Elaine (Clawson) Gear. Special thanks to the caregivers from Comfort Keepers and at Windsor Gardens. Bev is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Ken Boydstun; daughters, Pam MacKintosh and Launa (Russ) Schriock; granddaughters, Nicole and Amanda Schriock; and numerous in-laws and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 with a reception following in the hospitality room. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Congregational Church, 1220 N.E. 68th St., Vancouver, Washington 98665 or the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington, 9620 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Portland, Oregon 97219. Please sign her guest book at http://www.evergreenmemorialgardens.com/obituary and www.columbian.com/obits .
