She married Russell Lloyd Tompkins of Belmont, N.Y., in 1948. They settled in Belmont where they resided for most of their married lives. She is survived by her four children, daughters Christine (Ralph) Eastlack of Stannards, Carol (Lavant) Barney of Wellsville, Terri (Steve) Kirnan of Bolivar and son William (Carol) Tompkins of Belmont; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Caldwell of Wellsville; Bruce Caldwell and Bryan Caldwell of Belmont; Darrell Caldwell, who makes his home in Kentucky, and sister Sarah Caldwell Wesche of Belmont. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Russell, who passed away in 2009 after 61 years of marriage, and brother David Caldwell, who passed in 2017. Barbara enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, reading and doing crafts. She loved to give gifts and made holidays, particularly Christmas, magical. She cherished her friendships. After raising her family, Barbara went to college to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and, upon graduation at the age of 48, worked at Jones Memorial Hospital, The Manor, and, later, for Doctor Scott in Wellsville. She was intensely interested in whatever sports or hobbies her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. The love she had for her family was unmatched and will be missed. According to her wishes, a small memorial service for family will be held at a later date.
