Barbara A. Bates, 82, of Lewes passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 at home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Hubert F. and Evelyn (Bennett) Jicha. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to raising her children. She enjoyed doing word puzzles, watching Lifetime movies and the Hallmark channel and using her ipad. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bates and brother, Hubert Jicha, Jr. She is survived by her six children: Lonnie Wilson (David), Robin West (Bruce), Tom Bates (Michelle), Jimmy Bates, Kevin Bates and Bobbi Heck (Kenny); eight grandchildren, Brandon, Summer, Janene, Cody, Tyler, Jeremy, Bethany, Niki and Ariana; seven great grandchildren, Riley, Luke, Abbey, Nolan, Tessa, Oliver and two more on the way; two best friends, Pearl Mae Fouser and Ada Cooper; and her grand dog, Ben that she adored. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Delaware Mentor, 28417 DuPont Blvd Units 1 & 2, Millsboro, DE 19966.
