In memory of
Arne Taksen, 84, died in the loving arms of his family. So like him to stage his journey on the Jewish New year and 9/11, highlighting his religious faith and love of country. Arne will be remembered for his larger than life personality, and this "Most Happy Fella" could be heard throughout town singing, laughing, and spreading joy. You could always count on Arne for a warm greeting and a big smile. He was born on June 30, 1934, to the late Fay and Leon Taksen in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Overbrook HS in Philadelphia and graduated from William Penn HS. His college career began in Shippensburg, followed by PSU and received his degree from Rider College. He is a veteran of the US Army, and was stationed at Fort Knox during the Korean War. Arne owned D&L Distributing Co., a coin operated amusement business in Harrisburg, for over 50 years. Upon his retirement he started "NJG" (Nice Jewish Guy), a successful driving service. Arne was an active member of Beth El Temple for over 40 years and belonged to the JCC Senior Club. He was a 50 year plus member of the Harrisburg-Snyder Masonic Lodge No. 629, as well as The Harrisburg Consistory. He enjoyed volunteering at Pinnacle Health as well as the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. He could be seen soaring around town with his best friends "The Condors." Arne treasured his winters in his beloved Carpenteria, CA. His passions included travel, sailing, PSU football, Philadelphia sports, lawn bowling, and visiting the Front St. Diner. A love of musical theater led to his belting out a song wherever he would go. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Pat, cherished children, Amy Somers and her husband Andy, of Sherman Oaks, CA, and son Howard and his wife Ruta, of Calabasas, CA, dear sister Marlene Tewner, and husband Yankie, of Ashkelon, Israel, and three adored grandchildren, Matthew, Noah, and Sasha.
