BIG RAPIDS -- Arletha Grayer, 74, of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. She was born Feb. 26, 1944 in Isola, Mississippi. Arletha was a longtime member of the Third Avenue United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends and, most of all, she enjoyed life. She will be remembered for her loving, caring and compassionate ways to anyone and everyone. She will be missed dearly by her children, James Tucker, of Evart, David Grayer, of Rogers Height, Curtis Greer, of Chicago, Ollie Greer, of Big Rapids, Michael Greer, of Chicago, Shikala Grayer, of Chicago, Etta Welch, of Big Rapids, and Crystal Grayer, of Chicago; brothers, Eugene Simmons, of Indianola, Mississippi, Willie Simmons, of Big Rapids, Robert Simmons, of Reed City, and Derrick J. Simmons, of Evart; sisters, Rosie Thompson, of Chicago, Patricia Simmons, of Big Rapids, and Doris Winburn, of Salina, Kansas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Arletha was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Mae Simmons; daughter, Linda Ann Masoud; brothers, Roosevelt Simmons Jr., Frank Simmons and Lovell Simmons; and sisters, Oletha Simmons, Ruby Simmons, Welthe Franklin and Linda Lee Simmons. Funeral service will be at noon, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Arletha's family will greet friends beginning at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, until time of service. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery.
