Lt. Col. Anthony George Weiss
Lt. Col. Ret. Anthony George Weiss, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at home with his wife and family by his side. Tony was born on June 10, 1929 in Inkerman, Pa. In 1950 he joined the Air Force and served in Germany during the occupation after World War II and in Vietnam. He served his country as an Air Force pilot for over 26 years and was stationed in Germany, France, California, Okinawa, New York, Missouri, Colorado and Argentina, finally retiring in Dover as a Lt. Colonel. After his military career, he worked for the Capitol School District for 14 years serving as chief of maintenance. Tony lived life to the fullest. He was an inventor with many interests, including woodworking, building Shaker oval boxes, gardening, computer programming, photography, tending his backyard birds and authoring the Weiss family newsletter for 20 years. Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Ruhl) Weiss; daughters Margaret Willard (Steven), Barbara Hoage (Christopher) and Katherine Szramka (Thaddeus, Jr.); grandchildren Aaron Willard, Jacob Willard, Elizabeth Hoage, Jesse Willard, Thadeus Szramka III, Samuel Szramka and Abigail Hoage. He is also survived by his siblings, Gertrude Hansbury and George Weiss, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William Weiss and Margaret (Slankausckas) Weiss, his grandson Steven Anthony Willard, and his siblings, Mary Adamcik, Robert Weiss, Delores Maguschak, Nancy Shampack, John Weiss, Janet Sherrill, Anna Crisi and William Weiss. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tony's name to the Salvation Army, PO Box 308, Wilmington, DE 19899 or the Purrfect Cat Haven, P.O. Box 1737, Dover, De. 19903.
