Andrew LaFata Jr., 72 Beloved husband and father, loving Poppa Andrew LaFata Jr., a lifetime resident of Staten Island, died May 6, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born March 15, 1947, to Phyllis (Nybro) and Andrew LaFata Sr. He graduated from Port Richmond High School, and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Andrew was part owner of Riche Fuel, alongside his father, for over 30 years. He worked as a bus operator for the MTA, Castleton Depot, until he retired. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda (Scharfenberg) and his two daughters, Andrea Broege and Dr. Allison Esperon and their husbands, Richard and Matt. He was a loving Poppa to Amelia, Zachary, Emma, and Evan. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Bitetti and her beau, Mike Friscia. Andy enjoyed reading, trips to Atlantic City, a good day at the beach and above all, time spent with his loving family. Arrangements are being handled by Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held at Casey on Saturday at 10 a.m. Private cremation to follow.
