Alfred G. Desilets
Alfred G. "Gerry" Desilets, 89, beloved husband of Jeannette (Frechette) Desliets of 48 years, passed on February 5, 2019. Born March 17, 1929 in Berlin, NH, he was the son of Albert and Irma (Demers) Desilets. Gerry grew up in New Hampshire and proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during Korea. For 17 years, he worked in security and as shift supervisor at Baystate Medical Center. After his retirement, he worked for 15 years as custodian at St. Francis of Assisi in Belchertown. Gerry and his wife have lived in Pine Valley Plantation since 1980, previously of Springfield. As a proud veteran, he was a past commander and member of the DAV, American Legion and Marine Corps League and Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife, Gerry will be missed by their daughters, Janet Derderian of Chicopee, Colleen King and husband Kevin of Ware, and Donna Varelas of Springfield and husband Theodore. Gerry also leaves 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Rita Gagetta and Theresa and Pat Charette, and sister in law Rita Frechette and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 2 brothers, Maurice and Robert. Visitation will be 10-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12th at St. Francis of Assisi with a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date at MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either DAV or St. Francis of Assisi, PO Box 612, Belchertown, MA 01007.
