Alexis Berry
CHICAGO - Alexis M. Berry died unexpectedly at her home in Chicago on April 29, 2019, at the age of 62. Alexis is survived by her brother, John Berry; her niece, Emma Berry; her great-nephews, James and Robert; her step-siblings, Becky (Mangieri) Sheldon, Jeff Mangieri, and Lori Mangieri; and the many friends she made from all over the globe. She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte L. (Berry) Mangieri; her father, Robert C. Berry; her stepfather, Frank T. Mangieri; and her stepbrother, Greg Mangieri. Alexis spent her childhood with her family in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg Senior High School in 1975. She earned a bachelor's degree from Barat College in 1980. After moving to Chicago, Alexis began a long career in finance and systems analysis for major institutions including the Chicago Stock Exchange. Later, Alexis changed careers to match her passion for travel and meeting new people. She was with Global Adrenaline, now National Geographic Expeditions, for many years. She traveled to scores of countries, and loved exploring out-of-the-way spots that only true adventurers dare go. Her most recent thrill and honor was to meet the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall in March. A celebration of her life will take place in Chicago on Saturday, June 15. For those interested in attending, please send an email to CelebratingAlexis@gmail.com for details. In lieu of flowers, Alexis requested that contributions be made to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, or Conservation International. "Absolute heaven? A 4WD in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy with a trusty spotter by my side, binoculars in my lap, and Tuskers in the cooler." Bon Voyage, Miss A!
