Adrian "Skip" Marsden
Of St. Paul, age 81 Father, sportsman, entrepreneur, Inventor Beloved husband of Susan Markham passed away November 18, 2009. He was father of Adrian "Skip" Jr. (Nance); Mary (Richard Heitman); Steven (Judith); and James (Lou). Stepfather of Eric Johnson (Etsuko) and Nick Johnson and loving grandfather to Angelynn, Emily, Christopher and Marais Johnson. Born in Stewart, MN on May 15, 1928, he entered the Merchant Marines at 15. He founded Marsden Bldg Maintenance in 1952 and grew it into a diverse service organization that included janitorial, security, armored car and HVAC services. Skip's company employed over 4,000 people in 10 states and later evolved into Marsden Holding. Skip was past president and board member for 15 years of Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI). Under Skip's leadership, the group developed a Certified Building Services Executive (CBSE) program for company owners and managers. This remarkable man was also an inventor. He developed a floor cleaning system called spray buffing that became accepted all over the world. Skip's success was based on his philosophy to fully satisfy customers with excellent service while treating both the employee and the customer with fairness and integrity. Without fanfare he broke down barriers of race and gender by his actions and in his company's hiring practices. Skip gave generously to many Twin Cities and national charities. In all of his relationships he was honest, direct and genuine. He loved and touched the hearts of people from every facet of life. Mass of Christian Burial 1PM Saturday at the Church of the Assumption, 51 W. Seventh St., Saint Paul. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Saint Paul Hotel, 350 Market St., beginning at 4PM. Memorials preferred to the United Hospital Founda-tion, 333 N. Smith Ave., St. Paul, 55102, the Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. S.W., Rochester, MN 55905 or Ducks Unlimited.
