Wendy Austenson Feb. 05 1956 - Jan 03 2107 Gwen ("Wendy") Marie Austenson passed away at her residence in Saskatoon on Jan. 03 2017. Born Feb. 05, 1956, to Oliver and Lilly Austenson, she was raised at the family farm near Viscount. Wendy enjoyed nature and playing outside. She was a sweet and quiet companion, no trouble at all for Dad to take along on his outings such as hauling cattle. Wendy finished high school at LCBI in Outlook, taking Grades 11 and 12. While there, she formed some life-long friendships. In her early twenties, Wendy took the trip of a lifetime with three of those friends, when they traveled to Europe and Israel. Working as a waitress in various locales, she ended up in Vancouver Island in 1980. She met Wayne Carson in Sooke, and their son Bradley was the light of Wendy's life. Tragically, Bradley succumbed to necrotizing fasciitis in 1988, shortly before his sixth birthday. Wayne passed away some time later. Wendy moved back to Saskatchewan in the early 1990's. Despite receiving a diagnosis of Schizophrenia during this time, she soldiered on, trying her hand at various training opportunities and jobs. Increasingly, she was plagued by health problems, including issues with a hip replacement, COPD, and. most recently, congestive heart failure. Unassuming and gentle, Wendy was a loyal friend, a good cinnamon bun-maker, and a knowledgeable Scrabble player. Wendy never missed her daily devotions during which she wrote out memorized Bible verses and prayed for friends and loved ones. Her life was not easy, but she persevered with all her strength. Predeceased by her son Bradley and her good companion Murray Cressel, Wendy is survived by her sisters Marilla (Don Schenk), Trudy (Wayne Peter), Lillian (Clare Kirkland and Tress Austenson and her aunts Else Speller of Oshawa and Marilyn Steel of Saskatoon, ten nieces and nephews and several cousins and good friends. A memorial service for Wendy will be held Feb. 25 at 2:30 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1215 McKercher Dr., Saskatoon, Pastor Harley Johnson officiating. Wendy's cherished dream was to move back to beautiful British Columbia, but we trust she is now at peace in an even more beautiful place.
