MITCHELL, Sidney (Sid) David May 4, 1931 - Montreal, QC October 7, 2016 – Priddis, AB It is with immense sadness that we share the unexpected and tragic news of the passing of this amazing man, Sidney (Sid) David Mitchell on Friday, October, 7, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Sid grew up in Montreal and spent many summers at the family farm in Ste. Agathe, Quebec. He proudly served as a Canadian Grenadier Guard. Afterwards, he began a lengthy career with CP Rail and retired after more than thirty years of service. In 1991, Sid and Viney moved to Calgary and Sid began a second career at Fish Creek Provincial Park. He made many new lifelong friends and eventually retired from the park. He often said it was one of the best experiences of his life. Sid's true passion was his family. He adored his wife, daughter, son- in-law, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. His grandchildren and great- grandchildren brought overwhelming joy to his life, and he shared an extremely loving relationship with them. He was a generous, kind, humorous, loving man whose zest for life was contagious. Simply put, he was one of a kind; the absolute salt of the earth. He was always up for a cold Rainier with his pals, and could devour oysters like no other. He will leave a huge gap in many lives. Sid is survived by his cherished wife of sixty-one years, Viney; his loving daughter Judy and her husband Jody; granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Blair; grandson Jordan (girlfriend Alice); great-grandson Alexander Sidney (his namesake); great-granddaughter Amber; his sister Shirley; sister-in-law Millie and her husband Ron; brother-in-law George and his wife Joan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends (including close family friend Dan Skahan). A Celebration of Sid's Life will be held in Calgary at a later date (to be announced). Rest in peace our beloved Sid. Until we meet again.... Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In living memory of Sid Mitchell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
