In memory of
Pearl "Judy" Hardie
Pearl (Judy) Marie HARDIE (nee HICKS) Pearl (Judy) Marie Hardie (nee Hicks) in her 88th year passed away peacefully with grace and determination at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario, on December 23, 2016, with her family around her. She joins her husband of 66 years Banning Henry Hardie who passed away this past May. She spoke frequently and fondly of her "wonderful family" in recent days and that family will miss her and mourn her passing, but celebrate her life and cherish her memory. Remembered by her children Pat and (Gord) Laughren, Peter and Kathleen (Cooper) Hardie and Jennifer and Chris (Hinton) Hardie, her 7 grandchildren Damien (Estelle), Linden (Kyle), Gavin (Ashley), Calum, Clayton (Maddie), Casey (Nick) and Layne and her 2 great-grandchildren Charlie and Aurea. Judy, as she was known by everyone, was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, where she met and married the love of her life, Banning Henry Hardie. She was a devoted and supportive mother who encouraged and championed all of her children's passions and pursuits. Her lifelong interests included painting, photography and travel. She volunteered much of her time to community service through church activities and adult literacy, finding pleasure and fulfilment in teaching adults how to read and write. Both Judy and Banning embraced and pursued life to the fullest, starting a second life of action and adventure upon Banning's retirement and the departure of children. They built a Solar house in Prince Edward Island, travelled across country in a VW van, spent winters in Mexico, Spain and Florida and volunteered for numerous organizations. Her children will remember her strong spirit, her religious conviction and her loyal commitment to the ideals she believed in. Her generosity, creativity and strength lives on in her children and grandchildren. Missed but not forgotten.
